Alien: Isolation is the latest installment in the Alien franchise, and it is by most accounts a great game. We reviewed Alien: Isolation a few days ago and found it to be one of the best survival horror experiences that the video game medium has to offer.
In addition to our basic survival guide for Alien: Isolation, we’ve put together the following guide to help players address crashes and stuttering on the PC Steam release of the game, as well as other tidbits to make running the game a much more pleasant experience, such as skipping the intro videos that play as you launch the title.
We have also prepared a guide on how to launch the Alien: Isolation with Oculus Rift support.
How to Skip Intro Videos
Enter the game’s installation directory, navigate to \DATA\UI\MOVIES. Delete or rename the AMD_IDENT.USM, FOX_IDENT.USM, and CA_IDENT.USM files to skip introduction videos in game.
Random Crashes or Black Screen Fix
Running the game on anything but the latest drivers for your graphics card can cause the game to randomly crash or display a black screen. Nvidia users should install the latest WHQL drivers through the Nvidia Geforce Experience software. The latest version coded to run Alien: Isolation is WHQL 344.11.
The latest AMD Catalyst Software Suite drivers are 14.9, released on 9/29/2014.
“AI.exe has stopped working” Fix
Download and install the latest graphics drivers to fix this issue.
How to Modify the FOV (Field of View)
Alien: Isolation runs at a default FOV of 75. If this feels too cramped for you, you can increase the FOV by going to the \DATA directory in your Alien: Isolation installation directory and alter the ENGINE_SETTINGS.xml file.
<setting name=”Field Of View”>
<quality name=”47″ float=”47.0″ precedence=”7″></quality>
<quality name=”50″ float=”50.0″ precedence=”6″></quality>
<quality name=”55″ float=”55.0″ precedence=”5″></quality>
<quality name=”60″ float=”60.0″ precedence=”4″></quality>
<quality name=”65″ float=”65.0″ precedence=”3″></quality>
<quality name=”70″ float=”70.0″ precedence=”2″></quality>
<quality name=”75″ float=”75.0″ precedence=”1″></quality>
</setting>
Mess around with the values for your desired FOV setting.
"The graphic card supporting DX11 was not found”
You’ll need a graphics card that meets the game’s minimum requirements. Laptops running Intel HD Graphics will not be able to run the game.
Taylor’s Door is Blocked Fix
At the start of the game, it may be possible to encounter a game-breaking bug that prevents you from reaching Taylor because the door is locked and won’t open. Simply restart the game (by quitting to desktop) and go for Taylor right away.
