Some new footage has come out for Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, and along with it, knowledge on how to tackle a surprisingly dangerous and common foe; the giants.
There is no way around it; the giants are trouble. In the demo, they can one shot you, the Inquisitor himself/herself, with regularity.
There is also a dragon in the demo, in the Emerald Graves at the very far north. He has over 138,000 health points, and people playing the demo simply can’t level up their characters enough to defeat them head on. Apparently, another player managed to do it, but it took him two hours. The final build is expected to have ten dragons in the whole game.
There are tactics to taking on the giants. You can get them to drop to one knee, at which point you will be able to deal massive amounts of damage. Giants are slow and do not have a lot of large EoE attacks, so it is relatively easy to get in, strike, and get out to avoid damage. You also get enough leeway to revive team members in between. Giants have 28,000 health points, roughly a fifth of how many health points dragons have. Giant battles are far, far more feasible.
Beating the dragon in the demo required using Solas, and equipping the flame staff from afar. Our source could not do it, even though he was told how to do it. Based on the sheer immensity of the task, Bioware seems to expect players to clock hundreds of hours in to get powerful enough to take these dragons. Damage scaling may also be a factor, prohibiting skilled players from skipping parts of the game by trying to get in too early.
One last thing to watch out for is that giants come in groups, so before you get into a fight, make sure he does not have company nearby.
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be released on November 18 to Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
