Destiny: How Patch 1.0.2 Makes the Game Better for You

October 2, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Many players are saddened that the Loot Cave is gone, but it’s a good thing, really.

Okay, okay. I know the first thing you are thinking with this headline is, "BUT THE LOOT CAVE!" The loot cave was an addiction and with any addiction you have to admit that you have a problem before it gets better. The same goes for Destiny. Had there been an actual online marketplace for this game, it would have completely destroyed it – maybe forever. This also let players who have had the game get a permanent jump on those who are just now buying into it. Though Bungie Studios tried to mitigate this by turning any held legendary engrams into rares, there is still a lot of damage already done.

A number of users are indiciating that the changes are positive. It's interesting how a simple change to the rarity of certain items can completely shift a person's viewpoint on a given game.

Take a look at what these two reddit users had to say.

irCuBiC reports that, "Mere minutes after the patch, I can already say how much happier I am with the game after the recent patches. I did the Daily Heroic (on 28), and got a legendary engram afterwards. I was legitimately excited to see the purple engram pop up, unlike before. Ran to the Cryptarch to decode it. It became two Ascendant Energy which popped up with the familiar purple "look at this awesome stuff" animation, which actually was an even better outcome than I expected. The combination of engrams dropping from dailies, knowing that purples become purple and the added flair of getting ascendant materials means the quality of life in the game has improved measurably for me, despite being small changes."

Keiichi81 says that the patch has "completely reinvigorated my enthusiasm to play Destiny."

These changes were bound to come. Don't act so surprised by the fixing of the loot cave. It was broken and was a scar on Destiny, an otherwise great game. Sure, the blanket changes to spawn rates are a bit saddening, but the trade-off looks to be well worth the loss.
