Tetsuya Nomura has chimed in regarding leaving development of Final Fantasy 15. After working on the game for over a decade, this statement is shocking to say the least.
Speaking to Famitsu, Nomura gave this answer regarding the situation:
It was the company’s decision, I can’t say anything more than that.
Tetsuya Nomura has worked on the Final Fantasy games since Final Fantasy 5, and has been involved with all the major console releases of Kingdom Hearts.
For Final Fantasy, Nomura did a lot of the graphic design for Final Fantasy 5, 6, 7, X, XI and the Final Fantasy 7 spinoff games. He has also been closely associated with Kingdom Hearts since the series started.
Nomura headed development of Final Fantasy 15 since 2006, primarily being involved on the main concept, story, and characters. Back then, it even answered to a different name;Final Fantasy Versus 13.
It may simply have been the case that Nomura took too long developing the concepts of Final Fantasy 15. At this point, fans have also been waiting for the next Kingdom Hearts game for a long time, so this shift may be for the best.
Both Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Do you think Square Enix made the right call? Let us know in the comments below.
