Square Enix took a moment during the Tokyo Game Show to run a new trailer for Final Fantasy Explorers. The upcoming 3DS action RPG does away with the series' traditional combat in favor of a system similar to that of Crystal Chronicles or even Capcom's Monster Hunter. The game will also bring back jobs in a big way, with old favorites like White Mage and Monk as well as new ones like the monster-controlling Beastmaster.
When Explorers launches in Japan this winter, retail boxes will include a code to download a free copy of the original Final Fantasy. It's not the NES version but rather a hi-res variant similar to the PSP remake. The game has been trademarked in the US, although no official localization confirmation has been made yet. Once it's confirmed, hopefully we'll get the free FFI too.
Final Fantasy Explorers arrives in Japan for 3DS on December 18.
