Black Hat Oculus Kickstarter Intends To Bring Stealth Indie Coop To Oculus Rift

September 14, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

This voxel stealth 2 player game allows you to play the muscle, or the hacker helping him from the sidelines.

A new Kickstarter seeks to make waves, as another indie projected to release on Oculus Rift. Introducing Black Hat Oculus.

Black Hat Oculus is a cooperative stealth game that’s promising Oculus Rift support. Imagine getting to play the Otacon to someone else’s Solid Snake. This is what Black Hat Oculus is all about.

As the Hammer, you charge into the Rift world, taking on guards, unlocking traps, and finding secrets. As the Spice, you are the hacker, able to unlock doors and disable enemies from afar. Your ultimate goal? Pulling off some daring heists in an unusual world.

The game uses minimalist ,abstract, voxel aesthetics, with a huge emphasis on dark shapes. Even enemy designs have been abstracted into hands with illuminati-like eyes on them. You many not really understand what's going on in the game at parts without the audio cues from Spice.

Black Hat Oculus does not seem to be pushing the game graphics wise, but it has the hallmarks of an ambitious Oculus Rift indie. The dev team (named Team Future) is only four people, and they’re asking for a modest $ 4,200. This is literally just the amount needed to pay for the Unity licenses they are using. Even the stretch goals are not too high, with online play, improved art assets, and extra levels.

With that amount, it is clear that the dev team is shouldering some of the costs themselves. The game looks solid, and Team Future seems to be transparent about everything, so this seems like a good project to get into.

You can learn more about Black Hat Oculus on their pitch video below. You can fund their Kickstarter here, and if you're one of the lucky few to own an Oculus Rift right now, you can get the beta here.
