Maxis’ SimGuruGrant has stated that there will be no The Sims 5 if The Sims 4 is not a success.
This comes in context to a fan making requests for features on the next Sims game. Guru Grant’s exact words are so:
We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5.
It seems the Gurus have been fielding a lot of requests from fans, as people who actually bought the game are rushing with reports on bugs, complaints on missing features and the like. In fact, the thread this comment is from was precipitated by a fan who returned their copy. To be clear, she was not complaining about missing features, but decided she preferred the open world design of The Sims 3 and decided to go back to it.
On this thread, fans took to the statement with incredulity. One fan did share sales figures for prior EA games:
· The Sims: 16 million units
· The Sims 2: over 20 million units
· The Sims 3: around 10 million units
It is also likely that Maxis is still stinging from the fallout of last year’s SimCity. While The Sims 4 did not meet the same severe critical and fan reception, a list of 89 missing features went viral.
How do you feel about this statement? Do you think Guru Grant should have fielded these requests for more features in a different way? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
