Nintendo aired that special Bayonetta 2 Direct earlier today as promised, and while it didn't offer a mountain of new information, it did give us a comprehensive overview of what to expect upon the game's release. We got to see the previously mentioned underwater battles in action, dive deeper into the story, and check out a brand new trailer. I will warn you that there might be a few minor spoilers in the above video, so exercise caution.
Of the small handful of new announcements, the biggest was that the Nintendo costumes featured in the port of Bayonetta 1 packed alongside its sequel will also be available in the latter. We already knew about the costumes for Peach, Link, Samus, and Daisy, but there is one last surprise: Fox McCloud from Star Fox, complete with Arwing blasters that lock on to their targets!
The Direct went into greater detail concerning Tag Climax, Bayonetta 2's special online co-op mode. We had learned recently that you would be able to select from Bayonetta, Jeane, or other possible characters. One of those additional characters is Rodin, the shopkepper in this and the previous title. There are six stages in Tag Climax, then you and partner can compare scores to see who was the top fighter. For your efforts, you'll earn Halos which can be used as currency to purchase items in the main game.
The Direct ends with re-confirmation of the two-in-one bundle. When Bayonetta 2 arrives on Wii U this October 24 for $59.99, a port of the first game will come packed in at no extra charge. On the eShop, both games can be purchased separately, but should you buy them together, you'll receive a discount that brings the total price down to $59.98 (a whole penny saved!).
