New 3DS Packaging Is Super Colorful

September 4, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Amazon Japan has posted listings for New 3DS faceplates as well.

Thanks to Nintendo Tweet, we've got our first look at the New 3DS packaging. The best word to describe it would be "colorful." It's certainly the most eye-catching handheld packaging that Nintendo has produced since the original North American Game Boy box. Compare this to the vanilla 3DS box with its single color scheme — simple and clean, sure, but oh so boring.

The New 3DS box also doubles as advertising for the interchangeable faceplates that Nintendo plans to release for the device. Revealed during the launch video, these plates will give your handheld a spiffy new look without the need to buy any special edition hardware (although special edition hardware will obviously still come out). Unfortunately, these plates will only work on the basic New 3DS and not the New 3DS XL. You can check out the full range over on Amazon Japan.

The New 3DS will arrive in Japan on October 11. No North American launch date has been announced yet.
