Pre-orders for Nintendo’s amiibos Are Now Open

August 29, 2014 by Tony Ponce

12 figurines will be available for $12.99 each later this year.

Nintendo has finally put a price on its line of highly anticpated NFC figurines. The first wave of amiibos will consist of 12 characters, each priced at $12.99. No release date has been announced, but odds are they'll arrive around the same time as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the first game to be compatible with them. You can even pre-order the little guys now from Amazon, GameStop, or Best Buy.

You'll have the option to pick among Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby, and Marth. Conspicuously absent from this lineup are Pit an Zelda, both who have been revealed previously. We'll have to wait for a future wave to get our paws on them as well as toys of the remaining Smash cast.

Though only Smash on Wii U will make use of the figures out the gate, you can expect amiibo functionality to come Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Trackers, and Yoshi's Woolly World. Select 3DS titles will also gain amiibo functionality — Smash for 3DS being the obvious one. Got to put that New 3DS to work, after all!

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be out this winter. The amiibos should naturally be joining the party by then.
