Dying Light Developer Diary Delves into the Game’s ‘Natural Movement’

August 29, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Techland says they wanted to create something that will surprise players.

Techland has released a new developer diary for their upcoming 2015 open world zombie survival game Dying Light.

Producer Tymon Smektala says the studio's goal is to break away from the conventions of standard FPS games by offering players the chance to move about without restrictions.

"We wanted to create something truly new. We wanted to surprise gamers around the world. When we took a closer look at other FPS games, we noticed that what they lack is the ability to move freely and seamlessly. We decided we must change that."

Dying Light calls to mind another FPS game with similar scope for movement, Mirror's Edge, but then Faith never had to deal with zombies and you'll need all the parkour abilities at your disposal if you're to survive the outbreak.

This is especially true at night when the zombies are at their most ferocious.

You can watch developer diary below and Dying Light's gamescom gameplay trailer here.

Dying Light is set for release on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in February, 2015.
