Rumors are going around that Grand Theft Auto 5 might be delayed from releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
Allegedly, the next-gen version of the game was also playable at Gamescom, but only behind closed doors. The game was not shown to journalists, and it was not shown off by either Sony or Microsoft in their press conferences or on the showroom floors.
Sony Worldwide Studios VP Michael Denny went on record to tell fans not to read too much into the game’s absence. They did not show the game simply because there was nothing new to show. Denny’s statement does not acknowledge the amount of rumored upcoming content for Grand Theft Auto 5’s main story mode, as well asGrand Theft Auto Online. This seeming unwillingness to acknowledge or confirm this content yet could be a sign that the game still needs some work before it can be revealed.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated before Gamescom that they would be willing to delay the game’s release on next-gen consoles to ensure that it would be at its very best. Rockstar wants to blow fans away with these next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto 5.
While it would be a disappointment for fans if they were not going to get Grand Theft Auto 5 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One by the end of this year as promised, at least they can take heart in the knowledge that when it does come out, it will meet expectations.
