Square Enix today held a livestream event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Mana series. In doing so, it also revealed that it’s got at least two new games in development in the series, including a new console game as well as a mobile project. We’re also getting Mana anime, and Trials of Mana on mobile devices. If you’re a fan of the Mana series, basically it’s a great time to be alive.
The announcement of the new console title was not accompanied by any real information, screenshots, or even a trailer. We’re getting a new Mana RPG, which is all we can really surmise. On the other hand, we got lots of new details about the upcoming mobile title. Echoes of Mana got a big trailer reveal, which implied that it’ll feature characters that have appeared in previous Mana titles. I’m not sure if we’re getting Fire Emblem Heroes-style greatest hits compilation, but either way it’s recalling older games in the series. It’s set for launch sometime in 2022.
In addition to new games, the remake of Trials of Mana is coming to iOS and Android. Unlike the original release, the remake was launched worldwide on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. You can see screenshots that show off the touchscreen controls, as well as what the remade characters look like on mobile devices. Unlike Echoes, the Trials mobile launch does have a release date: In this case, it’s launching on July 15.
In addition to all of the game news above, Square Enix also revealed that an anime, set in the Mana universe, is in the works. Set some time after Legend of Mana (or it may be an adaptation; not sure), it’s called The Teardrop Crystal. At the moment, we don’t have a release date for that one, either.
