The music of the Smash Bros. series is one of its biggest bonus treats. It is a best-of collection of memorable Nintendo jams, remixed and rearranged to serve as the perfect battle themes. Brawl went a step beyond in the soundtrack department, inviting many of the most notable composers in the game industry to put their own spin on classic tunes. And now the newest Smash is ready to take that concept to even greater heights — at least on the 3DS version.
At the bottom of this week's Smash round-up, we mentioned that the sound test menu has been given a welcome overhaul on the 3DS Smash:
Naturally, there are brand new remixes (marked in pink) alongside returning favorites (marked in white). Better still, by selecting the "Play in Sleep Mode" option, you can close your 3DS lid and use the machine as a portable music player, with the ability skip tracks with the L and R buttons.
That's not all! You can control the music that plays in the game's Smash Run mode — songs will be pulled randomly from a customized playlist of your design. There will even be songs in Smash Run that aren't available in any of the normal stages.
If you want to get a taste of the kind of music you'll be enjoying when Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS arrives on October 3, you can visit the Smash music page for song samples. Above, you can check out a "Battle! (Trainer Battle)" arrangement from Pokemon X & Y, but there's also "Full Steam Ahead" from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and a new "Multi-Man Smash" mix. The page also lists all the contributing artists from the 3DS version, which includes legends such as Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage) and Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts). Check out the lineup below.
