Microsoft is trying out something new on the Xbox One that allows players to download and play games for free. The catch? The games are only playable over a 24-hour period.
The company is testing out the new feature on Xbox One, which showed up for US participants of the Xbox One console beta last night. According to participants, who made a post on Reddit, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood was unlocked as a free download, as seen in the photograph above.
The game was listed in the Xbox One’s “Games for Gold” section under a new label titled “Free Play Day with Gold,” and differs from the regular “Free with Gold” offerings that you can see tagged on Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut and Crimson Dragon, which also appear in the photograph.
Microsoft’s official Twitter account verified the initiative in a response to someone asking about it today.
They indicated that an announcement would be due out shortly.
@PrestoFriend531 Gotcha. Looks like it is actually. We'll be in touch here shortly. 🙂 ^AD

Given this development, it will be interesting to see if Sony follows suit with a similar program on the PlayStation 4 through its PlayStation Plus system, which delivers free games to subscribers each and every month over the company’s PS3, PS4 and PS Vita platforms.
