GTA Online Updated to 1.16, Includes New Jets, Flight Suits, and Activities

August 19, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

The latest update for GTA Online takes the game to the skies.

San Andreas Flight School Update

Just as we reported yesterday, Rockstar is releasing a new update for Grand Theft Auto Online, which brings the game up to version 1.16. Titled the San Andreas Flight School Update, the new patch adds new air and land vehicles, aerial solo challenges, and a veritable slew of other activities for players to enjoy.

On the top of the list is the new Western Besra training jet that allows you to push your flight skills to the max. Rockstar has in store 10 new solo missions that will make you comfortable in any pilot’s danger zone, including combat maneuvering, low-flying challenges, formation flying, and more. You can see the jet in the screenshot above the fold.

To look the part, Rockstar is supplying players with a Flight Suit, seen below, that lets you dress up like a pilot.

Once you’re done flying around in the training jet, you can check out the new Swift helicopter, or cram your entire squad into a 16-man Buckingham Mil-Jet for team transport. If you fancy yourself jumping out of airplanes, Rockstar has prepared a nice set of Chutes and Parachute Bags—as well as a Reserve Parachute to give you a second chance at a soft landing.

Later, you can hit the road with a new Invetero Coquette Classic, available in hard-top or topless roadster variants for your speed fix.

There are three all new VS mission modes, including Acquire Targets, which is a kill-the-carrier style mode where players fight in P996 Lazers to control one flag; G-Rating, where you compete against other pilots as you fly to pick up 15 flags in both weapons hot and cold environments; and finally Air Force Zero, where the defending team must protect an aircraft against an attacking team as it flies to the safe LZ.

The 1.16 update is available via automatic update for both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, which itself is a part of Grand Theft Auto 5.
