Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire: Mega Stone Prize, Horde Encounters, New Art And More

August 10, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

We have another megapost of Pokemon information to share with you today, folks.

Nintendo has shared a new press release for Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. It officially confirms to the US what we learned from Corocoro early this week, and adds new details the fans did not get to yet. We’ll try to focus on the stuff that’s new.

So, we get different names and more details for the same thing. Hoenn region’s Lisia (that’s the new green haired girl) hosts a Pokemon Contest Spectacular, where your Pokemon can take part in five different contest categories, namely, Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness. The first time you join, you can get one of the five revealed costumed Pikachu, with each one having a unique move they otherwise would not be able to use. Here’s what each costume Pikachu gets:

·         Pikachu Rock Star uses Meteor Mash.

·         Pikachu Pop Star uses Draining Kiss.

·         Pikachu Ph. D uses Electric Terrain.

·         Pikachu Belle uses Icicle Crash.

·         Pikachu Libre uses Flying Press.

And yes, there will be multiplayer contests, and you can take photos. You can even build up fan followings that will help your Pokemon win future contests. Ultimately, if your Pokemon become super popular, they can Mega Evolve.

Now tell me you don't want to join your Pokemon into some of those contests!

Now, for the serious stuff.  Horde Encounters are coming back in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and this time it’s intensified. Enemy Trainers can now also appear in groups of five, making you run the gauntlet to really earn those experience points.

Here are complete details on the new Mega Evolution Pokemon:

  • Mega Altaria is Dragon/Fairy type, and gets Attack, special Attack, and Defense boosts. It also gets the ability Pixilate, which turns Normal type moves into Fairy type moves.
  • Mega Salamence gets a Defense boost, and its Aerilate ability turns Normal type moves into Flying type moves.
  • Mega Lopunny gets boosts to its Attack and Speed. Its Scrappy Ability affects only Ghost type Pokemon. They weaken to Mega Lopunny’s Normal type and Fighting type moves.

Finally, let’s talk special early purchase incentive. Much like with Pokemon X and Y, there will be a limited time offer to get a special Pokemon if you buy Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire for 3DS at launch this November 21. This time the Pokemon on offer is Shiny Beldum, which can evolve into Shiny Metang, and then Shiny Metagross. The Shiny Beldum also comes with a Metagrossite Meta Stone, so in essence, you get Shiny Mega Metagross, although you still need to level it up (which is half the fun).

That was a lot of info, right? You can check out more with a special trailer and new gallery below.
