Collecting trophies in previous Smash Bros. has always been an enjoyable side activity, but it could get a little frustrating coming down to the final few. Melee's Lottery had you playing the slots in order to collect your figurines, while Brawl's Coin Launcher replaced the slots with a simple shoot 'em up. In both minigames, there was no worse feeling than picking up a string of duplicates. Thankfully, the newest Smash allows you to collect your wares much more directly via the Trophy Shop.
As director Masahiro Sakurai explained in today's update, you'll be able to purchase select trophies using coins collected during the main game. Some trophies even go on sale from time to time! There still seems to be some degree of randomess — it looks as if only six trophies are presented at any given time — but at least now you won't have to waste coins when you don't need to. There's no word on whether the shop will appear in the Wii U version as well, but my money says it will.
Speaking of trophies, check out the Trophy for Mega Man's nemesis, Dr. Wily! Then hang tight for the release of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS on October 3, and the Wii U version later in winter.
