Bungie has explained how players will be able to exceed Destiny's soft level cap of 20 which can be reached through general gameplay by unlocking experience points.
After you get to level 20, XP is collected into 'Motes of Light' which can then be crafted to form special armour through the Speaker in the game's social hub, the Tower.
This will allow you to boost your equippment to at least level 29 and possibly further even though your character screen will continue to show level 20. The armour and weapons you unlock will have a light measure but it's unclear how this statistic translates into an actual player level.
Speaking to IGN in the video below, Bungie designer Sage Merrill "[At 20], you've got all the tools in your toolbox and go out and do pretty much any activity you like."
It's not quite that simple however, as high level raids, such as those at level 25, can require multiple attempts and better equippment before they can be tackled successfully.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Destiny's six player raids will not have public matchmaking. While Bungie admits that is a risk, the game, which launches September 9th, has plenty of people excited and to tide you over there's a rather excellent fanmade trailer for the game from YouTuber Gen Kim below.
