If you thought that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was set to be a one-off title like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: World at War, you’d be sorely mistaken. Activision has big plans for the game, calling it a “franchise”.
Speaking in an interview with VentureBeat, Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield called the game the start of a new franchise.
“It’s next-generation, and it’s 40 years in the future. There is really nothing you can borrow. This game had to be done from scratch,” he said.
“This is really a brand new franchise within Call of Duty. It’s a new intellectual property.”
To be fair to Schofield, the game does look like a significant departure from previous iterations in the Call of Duty series—embracing next-gen futuristic technology in a bigger way than any of the previous titles with new gameplay elements to match. If it didn’t have the name Call of Duty on it, I wouldn’t even think it was a Call of Duty game.
Activision recently released a fresh new trailer to showcase elements of the game’s single-player campaign. Check it out here.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set for release on the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 on November 4, 2014.
