Earlier this year, Performance Designed Products announced a line of controllers modeled after the familiar GameCube pad. Since this was before the unveiling of the GameCube Controller Adapter, PDP designed its pads to operate as Classic Controllers that plug directly into the Wii Remote.
Three listings on the British ShopTo site reveal that PDP's controllers should be arriving on November 14 for £19.85 (about $34) each. There are Mario, Peach, and Yoshi designs, and all look like spot-on GameCube controller recreations save for some teensy changes. Instead of a single Start button in the middle, there are +, -, and Home buttons. The single Z button has been replaced two L and R shoulder buttons, while the old L and R triggers are now ZL and ZR triggers.
Obviously, the aim was to capitalize on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U — without GameCube ports on the Wii U itself, Smash veterans would be forced to learn an all-new layout. Now that real GameCube controllers are confirmed to work with the new adapter, PDP's contributions may not be all that enticing anymore. It's up to you to decide.
