Overkill Software is offering the original Payday: The Heist (not to be confused with its sequel Payday 2) as a free download on Steam on October 18.
The game will be provided to all Steam users as a part of a Payday 2 community drive. The reward was unlocked after the official Payday 2 Steam Community hit a milestone of 1.05 million players. More goodies are unlocked as the community gains more members.
Players who participate in the group will receive a wide assortment of in-game items, ranging from weapons, weapon mods, to masks.
As of this time, the group stands at 1,117,676 members, with the latest unlock being a free mask from Bain.
Overkill plans to acquire 1.5 million community members by October 18, which will unlock even more items for players.
At E3 2014, Overkill and publisher 505 Games announced that Payday 2: Crimewave Edition will be headed to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This version of the game includes “enhanced features and a stash of new bonus content.” We’ll keep you abreast of the console version’s development once they announce a release date.
