Druckmann has given no indication of who might play Joel.
The Last of Us movie will be based on the story of the game, Druckmann confirmed in March saying, "It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface."
Another Naughty Dog game, Uncharted, has been confirmed to hit trailers on June 10th, 2016. Based on the picture below, which is similar to the first images we saw for Uncharted 4, the movie will be based on A Thief's End rather than the earlier games in the franchise.

It also raises the possibility that A Thief's End will be released around the same time as the movie.
The Last of Us movie does not have a release date as of yet and at the panel, Naughty Dog said it was still very early days.
