Destiny Beta Now Open for Everyone

July 24, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Bungie no longer requires code for access to the beta.

Bungie has announced that the beta for Destiny is now open for everyone who wants to play it, even if they don't have a code.

In an update on Bungie's website, community manager DeeJ revealed the news, writing:

"Today, at 4:00 PM PDT, we’re opening the Destiny Beta to anyone who wants to create a character and walk in their boots. There are, of course, some requirements. You’ll need to have a compatible console equipped with PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold. You’ll need to be brave.

"Help us deliver the game you deserve. Before we shut this party down, we’ll welcome everyone who wants a preview of this brave new world. If you have yet to play Destiny, look for offers to download the Beta directly from your console later on this afternoon."

The Destiny beta launched last Thursday on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 before coming to Xbox 360 and Xbox One a day earlier than expected on Tuesday. To access the beta until now, users needed a pre-order access code which unlocked three keys for the beta which could then be shared with friends.

The beta ends on Sunday though Bungie did extend the game's alpha test last month so it's possible that the same thing will happen this time. Anyone who plays on Saturday, Pacific Time, will unlock a special reward for the final game.

Destiny launches on September 9th.
