Tetsuya Nomura, best known for his work on the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy franchises, has revealed his vision of Batman for Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai line of action figures. The intriguing, and dare I say it—extreme—version of Batman, who sprouts a pair of black wings in place of his usual flowing cape, is on display at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend (via Polygon).
Tetsuya Nomura’s take on the dark knight, originally designed by DC Comics, wouldn’t look too out of place in a Final Fantasy game, especially considering that characters of similar designs have made their showings in the series.
Square Enix has yet to announce pricing or release details about the Nomura-designed Batman and considers the design to be a prototype. The figure is a part of a new line of characters designed by Nomura in the Batman franchise, so we might soon be looking at Nomura-designed Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin figures in the near future.
How awesome is that?
My take: I'd kill to play an Arkham game with character and environment designs from Tetsuya Nomura.
