id Software's Matt Hooper says that RAGE wasn't the first game they had in mind to create prior to its announcement. The company had been developing an entirely different game until they saw an opportunity to develop the post apocalyptic shooter.
"We actually started on an entirely different project and we kinda switched gears when we realized we had an opportunity here," said Hooper in an interview with GameSpot AU.
"Brand new technology, brand new IP with RAGE. Really, it's an excuse to do all these cool things we've always wanted to do that maybe didn't fit in DOOM, Quake or some of our other franchise worlds."
"We've been tinkering with the idea of doing things with the iOS titles and then RAGE and the fact we can do things very close to the full fidelity of the game on those little devices," he said.
Hooper said that RAGE has the potential for cross-platform features with the iOS.
"We talk about different ideas of something in the iOS version unlocking something in the main game. We haven't finalized any of that yet, but it's something we're considering."
