A fan has recreated the Batman Arkham Knight armored batsuit, in impressive toy form.
Hot Toys could not have done any better. The creators over at GeeWhiz Customs shared the process by which they were able to recreate Rocksteady Bruce, and this is definitely not your average weekend craft project.
To start with, they sculpted the whole design in 3D using Maya. This was then further refined with ZBrush, to make the sculpt more organic. And then, the sculpt was broken down into parts and recreated via 3D printer. The printed parts were trimmed, patched, sanded, and painted with a primer, before moulding, to recast in ABS plastic or rubber.
The plastic build was then painted on using both airbrush and hand brushing, to recreate the colors of carbon fiber and weathered metal with acrylic. The meticulous paint jobs ends with a layer of automotive top coating.
GeeWhiz states that the hardest part of the project was getting the undersuit and cape exactly right. This part required the use of actual fabrics, including tulle netting, spandex, and several types of faux leather. These materials needed to fit the figure in such a way that the armor plates would fit on top, and that the whole thing would be absolutely accurate.
Overall, this was a really impressive fan project, for a game that isn’t even out yet! Batman Arkham Knight is coming 2015 to Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
