Microsoft Game Studios and 343 Studios has revealed a new trailer for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In this one, we learn that the anthology has content that features the Arbiter.
Although he is Arbiter by the time Master Chief meets him, Thel ‘Vadam has quite the backstory behind him. A worthy general, he spent some time as the Sanghelli’s Supreme Commander. This honor was taken from him, and he was branded with the Mark of Shame, following the events of the Fall of Reach.
During this event, he failed to protect his troops from the release of the Flood, leading to the infection of the Minister of Etiology, and the loss of both the Ascendant Justice, as well as the Forerunner relic. He was granted the title Arbiter as both a chance to redeem himself and as part of his punishment, as few Arbiters are expected to survive carrying out their mission.
And it was under his leadership that the Sanghelli discovered the truth about the Covenant and the treachery of the High Prophets. It was under him that they turned on the Covenant, and Thel learned to trust Master Chief, and eventually, the human race.
Thel continues to lead the Sanghelli in more recent events, although he has failed to broker a truce among his own kind, between those who trust and distrust humans. This trailer would have us believe there’s reason for humans not to trust him, however.
