Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire: Taking a Closer Look at the E3 Trailers

July 3, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Game analysis site GameXplain digs into the latest Pokemon trailers for any clues and changes.

With the launch of Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire but a few months away, fans are doing all they can to determine what has changed or been added compared to the original Ruby & Sapphire or even X & Y. Gameranx has already shared a few fan theories regarding Mega Evolutions and a mysterious dark island that appears above the Hoenn map. This time, we share an analysis video from GameXplain, which pores through all the E3 2014 Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire clips for any hidden clues.

One of the first things GameXplain notices is that in the attack animation for Mega Sceptile's Leaf Storm, its tail is cut off then grows back, much like how actual lizards regerenate lost limbs. It doesn't serve any gameplay function, but it is an interesting detail. Regarding how Groudon and Kyogre's Primal Reversion forms are activated, it's speculated that they may tie into the Red and Blue Orbs used to control the creatures. In the original games, the enemy uses the wrong colored orb on that version's legendary Pokemon, causing it to go out of control. It's possible that using the correct orbs to tame the creatures will trigger Reversion.

The video also examines the new character and environment designs. In particular, GameXplain believes that the trailers show the current incarnations of the Mossdeep and Lavaridge gyms. The assumed Mossdeep revision looks far more astral compared to the original, while the assumed Lavaridge revision looks much more like a proper bathhouse.

Watch the rest of the video for more details, then prepare yourself when Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arrives on 2DS and 3DS on November 21.
