3DS XL Is Getting a Pair of Yoshi’s New Island-Themed Covers

June 30, 2014 by Tony Ponce

$13.99 each, available on July 20 through Play-Asia.

As we mentioned before, it's not often that North America receives a new 3DS model. There are exceptions, of course, like the Mario White 3DS XL coming in July. Beyond that, the best we can do to add flourish to our handhelds is snap on a specially designed cover. Maybe the above two Yoshi's New Island 3DS XL covers could do the trick.

Based on Yoshi's latest 3DS outing, these two designs are a cheaper alternative to buying an entire piece of hardware. Play-Asia has them listed here and here for $13.99 each, available starting July 20. The listing notes that these are compatible with the 3DS LL, which is the Japanese name for the XL, but since these are just plastic snap-ons, there's no worry of region incompatibility. These appear to be see-through, so it would likely look best on lighter-colored models like the pink / white one.
