Alex Perkins, Evolution Studios' art director for DriveClub, has told GamerGen-TV about what the game is doing to be different than its other big competitors later this year, Froza Horizon 2 and The Crew.
Perkins said it's a matter of appealing to both casual and hardcore racing fans:
"We sit in a very happy niche, so like we have the underlying depth of the physics models for the vehicles but we've got a very easy to access, very simple to play, almost-arcadey feel. It's a hybrid, it's got the best of both worlds."
He added that he brings the game home with him and Perkins' girlfriend and friends – who are veteran racer fans – all love it. Asked to sum up why people should buy the game when it releases later this year, he said:
"DriveClub is the most connected, interactive [racer] and it captures the heart and soul of the entire driving experience in these beautiful, exotic cars and wonderful, beautiful locations."
DriveClub is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 on October 8th. A free PlayStation Plus Edition will also be available and free subscribers to the service who will be able to upgrade to the full version for a reduced price. Following criticism of Sony's initial policy, players will now be able to keep the full version if they upgrade even when their Plus subscription expires.
Game director Paul Rustchynsky has said the PS Plus Edition of DriveClub will be more than a demo.
