According to the latest update on the Shovel Knight Kickstarter page, developer Yacht Club Games is ready to unleash trowel-ly justice this Thursday, June 26. After several delays that pushed the game's release back months, Shovel Knight is finally ready for action on the Wii U and 3DS eShops as well as Steam.
The Kickstarter-funded 2D throwback has been hotly anticipated since its announcement. Developed by a new studio consisting of former WayForward devs, Shovel Knight takes the action and intensity of Mega Man and gives it a medieval makeover. You play as the titular Shovel Knight as he scoops and slashes through the Order of No Quarter, eight evil knights with unique abilities who serve the villainess The Enchantress.
The three different versions of the game will sport exclusive features. For instance, the Wii U build allows you to write in-game messages and share them with other players over Miiverse. On 3DS, you can battle friends you pass during the day in the StreetPass Battle Arena. And of course, the PC version allows for cloud saves and achievement hunting. There are also several stretch goal-achieved features that all three builds share, such as a challenge mode and gender swapping, but those will arrive later in the year as free updates.
In the meantime, enjoy the launch trailer above, then get ready to download Shovel Knight on June 26.
