From Software has completely denied rumors that Bloodborne is being developed by the same team behind Dark Souls 2.
Hidetaka Miyazaki has explained that the two games have two separate teams. Furthermore, From Software has the resources to work on two high-end games simultaneously. The company had been working on Bloodborne in parallel with Dark Souls 2 for some time now.
This interview also led to the question of Bloodborne, as a high profile game under From, competing with Western AAA games, and how Japanese devs are competing with these far broader Western games in general. Miyazaki replied that Bloodborne has become large in scope, but much like other Japanese devs, From managed to keep their fingerprints all over it. From didn’t make a conscious choice to make this happen, it was a matter of consequence.
Miyazaki shared further insight into From’s development style. They explained that unlike traditional Japanese developer settings, where there is one lead designer, there is one director working closely with several designers, to coordinate what is presumably a more collaborative effort.
Miyazaki then pointed out that this structure led to Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne adopting very different styles. Ultimately, whatever the game, their intention is to make a good game.
Bloodborne is coming to the Playstation 4 in 2015.
