Valve to Release the Complete Source SDK For Free

July 3, 2011 by Josh Wanamaker

In a surprising but completely welcome bid to further earn our love, Valve has decided to release their full SDK for free.

What with TF2 becoming free for everyone for ever and all that, Valve's Robin Walker has announced that their complete, official software development kit will also be released for free, for everyone to so screw with if they want. Please note that this is not just a map editor like Hammer or a limited SDK that modders can use to make L4D stuff. This is the full, complete software package that Valve themselves use to make their games using their Source tech.

It's kind of a huge deal. Companies don't typically just hand out the complete and unabridged tools they use to make stuff. Even Epic, with it's long history of providing its fans with the tools they use to make stuff, doesn't give out the full and complete SDK for free.

So to answer your question, YES, I love Valve and would marry it/them/whatever. Because like, marriage represents the ultimate expression of love, right? Right.
