Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition’s performance specs on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 will, once again, differ by a noticeable margin.
The game will run at 1080p on Playstation 4 and 900p on Xbox One. Both systems will get the game running at 60 FPS, and as Senior Producer Julia Humphreys explains, their focus is on keeping that framerate consistent for everyone. This is how it should be, as framerate, more than resolution, is a big factor in Diablo’s peculiar gameplay.
For reference’ sake, both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the 1st release of Diablo 3 ran in a rendering resolution of 1120x584p, but both also reached the minimum 60 FPS goal. Overall, the two versions of the game are equal, with a slight performance advantage to Xbox 360 of 10 extra frames per second while playing. This otherwise-near console parity meant they both had the same issues, such as frequent screen tearing.
Clearly, that parity will be gone on the newer versions, but we hope Blizzard can take care of the performance issues as well, on all systems. Blizzard seems to favor the Playstation 4, so we expect them to leverage the system’s unique features, such as the Dualshock 4 Touchpad. We don’t expect to wait long to find out.
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition is coming to PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One on August 19.
