Star Fox For Wii U Leaked By Time Magazine, Offers Dual Screen And Dual Pilot Gameplay

June 10, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The circumstances behind the leak are laughable, but it looks like Miyamoto made quite the headline grabber.

In one of the strangest, but exciting leaks in a while, Time Magazine accidentally confirmed Star Fox  for Wii U via an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto. They shared pictures, as well as details on the game itself.

It seems what happened was Time put the URL up far in advance of today’s Digital Event, in the expectation that no one was going to notice, or perhaps they really put it up too early. In any case, we have some extra details on the game as well, via NintendoLife.

This game has been in the works for a long time. Miyamoto was originally working on a Star Fox for the Wii for six years. Lacking a way to make it come together, they brought development over to the Wii U, using many of the same assets, within a time frame of six to ten months.

The game definitely utilizes the GamePad’s second screen for dual-screen gameplay, and it’s not something you’ll be able to pick up on immediately. One screen will have cockpit view and fighter view, and they will be interchangeable. Miyamoto states that it may take up to a half hour of playing before the average gamer picks up on it, which I would say would be around the same timeframe to get a feel for The Wonderful 101.

Miyamoto also hints at helicopter and dual pilot gameplay. With the helicopter, they’ve been exploring having one player pilot, with another player to control the robot (yeah, what robot? Exactly.)

They came up with the helicopter when thinking of how dual pilot would work out on the conventional Arwing. While one player pilots, another pilot could look around. They could not come up with a way for the 2nd pilot to look below, and so they came up with the helicopter.

We’re sure to get more details on this in a few hours, but has this gotten you excited about Nintendo’s Digital event later today? Share your thoughts with us below.
