Tomb Raider: Two New Games on the Way?

June 8, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Square Enix has registered two new domains ahead of E3.

Square Enix has registered two domains for new Tomb Raider games, one of which appears to be a sequel to the 2013 reboot while the other seems to be a follow-up to Guardian of Light.

The domains, for Rise of the Tomb Raider and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, were discovered by Superannuation.

Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Europe and North America, said a sequel to the reboot was "well into development," he added, "I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently."

Writer Gail Simone has commented that the Tomb Raider comics will lead directly to the next installment of the franchise.

Despite layoffs at developer Crystal Dynamics last August, development of the game is unaffected.

The Tomb Raider reboot initially failed to meet Square Enix's lofty sales expectation last March but the game had made a profit by the end of 2013, before the release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for PS4 and Xbox One.

Tomb Raider was demoed at Microsoft's E3 media briefing in 2012 and we may see its successor announced at this year's convention over the coming days.
