The release of The Sims 4 may be closer than we think. Though the game has been listed for a fall release target, some retailers seem to have updated their websites with a “proper” release date of September 2, 2014. Sims 4 fansite TheSimsVIP broke the news, which soon spread to other fansites.
This date has not yet been officially confirmed by the developers at EA Maxis, but it appears to match up with what fans have been speculating—and as we know, the fans are never wrong.
Speaking on Twitter, The Sims 4 producer Graham Nardone wrote that any release date you see now is a placeholder, because retailers don’t have the real one. Here’s what he wrote on May 22:
@_Tannerrr @Rudy8292 @SamWitts2 @swwSims It's Fall 2014. Any release date you see now is a placeholder because they don't have the real one.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) May 21, 2014
What he says can however be disregarded as “old news” given that new printed promotional materials for the game have surfaced from Wal-mart, confirming the September 2 release date. There’s a good chance that the game’s proper release date will be announced at E3 2014, so stay tuned to for a verification of what we already suspect to be the truth.
In addition to the release date news, EA has officially released the box art for The Sims 4. It looks like this:
And that's not all. Unfinished trailer footage of The Sims 4 has managed to leaked out onto the web, making its way to many of the game's fansites. Watch that below.
