Xbox One Controller Drivers Now Available for Windows PC

June 5, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

PC gamers can now download and install Xbox One controller drivers.

Microsoft’s Major Nelson has announced that new drivers for the Xbox One controller are now available for download on the PC, offering PC gamers are better way to play games using the Xbox One controller. This gives players the option to ditch their Xbox 360 controllers for a much superior controller.

The drivers will also be released as a part of a Windows update in the near future, but players who want to access the drivers now can do so by downloading them from one of the following links:

“We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller,” wrote Major Nelson.

“We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks.”

The new drivers for the PC will allow the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that offers support for the Xbox 360 controller. Just download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and it’ll work.

In addition to the newly released drivers, Microsoft has confirmed with Eurogamer that the Kinect-less Xbox One will receive a 10% boost in its performance due to the stripping out of the peripheral.

"Yes, the additional resources allow access to up to 10 percent additional GPU performance," said a company representative. "We're committed to giving developers new tools and flexibility to make their Xbox One games even better by giving them the option to use the GPU reserve in whatever way is best for them and their games."
