Microsoft just announced which games will be coming to Xbox Game Pass for the first half of May, and buckle up, because we’ve got a doozy of a slate this month. For starters, we’re getting nine games added to the roster, and they’re all winners or at least worth checking out. We’ve got big names like Red Dead and Final Fantasy, and also a few smaller, but noteworthy titles like Psychonauts are also in there.
Xbox Game Pass continues to be the greatest value in gaming, as we’re getting nine new titles added to the roster for May … and that’s just the first batch. The games everyone will most likely be excited for are Red Dead Online, which follows the addition of Grand Theft Auto last month; and Final Fantasy X/X-2. Just Cause 4, FIFA 21, and even Dragon Quest Builders 2 are also fairly big names, and it’s great to see them all coming to Game Pass at once. It’s going to be a very busy month.
Among the titles that aren’t so big, Psychonauts is the cult classic. The most likely reason behind its inclusion in the lineup now is to prime players for the sequel. We don’t yet know exactly when Psychonauts 2 is coming out, just that it’s supposed to happen later this year. It’s been 16 years since the original came out, so there are probably several Game Pass subscribers who were too young to play it when it launched. I suspect this is leading up to an announcement at E3. The timing’s perfect.
Meanwhile, the games that are leaving the roster include Alan Wake and Hotline Miami. Fallout 76, Halo Infinite, and Grounded on Game Pass are also getting updates this month. Microsoft is also partnering with Spotify to offer Game Pass Ultimate subscribers four months of the service.
