Strauss Zelnick has revealed that 2K Marin now has the reins of the BioShock franchise.
Who know BioShock was still a thing? Who knew 2K Marin still was? As you may remember, it wasn’t that long ago that both 2K Marin and Irrational Games were essentially dissolved. Zelnick pointedly named 2K Marin as the studio ‘responsible for shephering’ the franchise from this point on. We can only assume this 2K Marin is headed by whoever was left behind after they were struck with layoffs last year.
Zelnick also explained that they have no solid plans in a future BioShock game, but they are hopeful on the franchise. Zelnick believes that the series hasn’t met its full potential. By this, he does not only mean the franchise’s creative depths, but also in terms of how to expand its appeal.
Zelnick believes they are in a good position with BioShock’s reputation, and the games have been undeniably profitable for them, so we can renew our hopes on the next BioShock. No word on how soon they’re going to start on it though, and with all the uncertainty this could be either the best or worst thing to happen to BioShock ever.
I say we let 2K Marin take their time on BioShock 4. How do you feel about it? Let us know in the comments below. Image is from the original BioShock.
