Nintendo has teamed up with Mercedes Benz for an odd piece of product placement in their upcoming game, Mario Kart 8. The odd piece of product placement I mentioned before comes in the form of a Mercedes GLA as an in-game vehicle in the game. Calling it odd just doesn’t seem to cut it.
The announcement was made by Mercedes-Benz Japan in collaboration with Nintendo, and the vehicle will see release as a free DLC for the game.
For now, only Japanese players will be able to download the gaudy looking vehicle to add into the game, but Nintendo promises that further information relating to the distribution of the vehicle will be released in the near future, which leads us to believe that the vehicle may be downloadable for all players, worldwide.
The deal also sees Mario appear in a new live-action Mercedes advertisement, which you can watch below. Additionally, Mercedes has a website up featuring classic NES Super Mario Bros. visuals in a Mercedes while stomping on Goombas.
