What We Know So Far About Hyrule Warriors

May 21, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

It’s time we got up to date on Tecmo Koei’s and Nintendo’s upcoming franchise crossover, a first for Dynasty Warriors.

We’re updating you today with a giant batch of information regarding Hyrule Warriors. The game is slated to be a huge release, not only for the Wii U, but for Tecmo Koei, who hopes the crossover will sell 1 million copies.

The game is slated to release in Japan August 14, and there will be a retail Premium Box set with a Triforce shaped clock and codes for 6 special costumes. There will also be a Treasure Box edition, but we have no details on the contents yet.

The game is a coproduction of Omega Force, the Dynasty Warriors team, and surprisingly, also Team Ninja, all under the supervision of no less than Eiki Aonuma.

Link is a soldier in training, this time rescuing Princess Zelda from Shia, who has apparently turned evil. Impa will also be in the game, as a Royal Army captain, and she’ll be carrying around a large longsword. In fact, there will be a considerable number of playable characters, so much so that Aonuma was surprised they were able to add so many of them. I’m already betting you can play Ganon, too, since playing the bad guy is a Dynasty Warriors trope, but maybe that’s just me.

Famitsu has shared some images from the game, which you can check out below.

The game is the same musou-based beat-em-up gameplay the series is known for, combined with the Z-targeting system from the Zelda series. This system will allow you to avoid attacks and focus on weak spots. Instead of the Musou Ranbu, Link and other playable characters are getting a spin attack.

Different weapons change the way characters fight, and there will be systems in place to upgrade weapons and build up characters.

Speaking of weapons, bombs will be in the game too, and you can apparently do more with them than just throw them.

The game will make use of the GamePad for sure. In single player it acts as the menu. There will also be a 2 player mode when one player uses the GamePad as their screen and controller.

Finally, the game is 70 % done, and most importantly, it will be playable at E3.

It just might be possible that Hyrule Warriors will steal the show at Nintendo’s E3 floor show, especially when you look at how great the game looks so far. We’ll keep you up to date on Hyrule Warriors as more information appears.

Hyrule Warriors is coming for Wii U.
