Pokemon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire: What We Know

We are orienting you with what we know for sure so far regarding Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. For the purposes of brevity, we, like the rest of the internet are going to refer to these games as Pokemon ORAS.

The games are complete remakes, not sequels. As is often the case, they are likely being made as the definitive edition of the games.

The games will not be in full 3D, which is the same as it was with Pokemon X and Y. Note that we’re not talking about the use of CG graphics, but the stereoscopic  (glasses-free) 3D effect. Nintendo’s description goes ‘Game in 2D. Some areas also playable in 3D.’ If they’re going for the same thing as X and Y, this will mean the game will have a 3D overworld and 3D battles.

We are not entirely sure what the creatures in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire  covers are. Of course, they look like Groudon and Kyogre, but we do not know if they are the mega-evolution versions of those Pokemon, or new forms, or even new (related) Pokemon. What we do know for sure is they are not redesigns, so you can rest assured that the Groudon and Kyogre you know and love are still in there.

Speaking of which, we don’t know yet if there will new mega-evolutions. If there were to be new mega-evolutions to be introduced, X and Y would have to be patched for the four games to interact with each other. To be honest, I don’t think it’s likely for that reason, but it is a new day at Nintendo, so who knows?

Regarding the CoroCoro leaks, take everything they came out with before May 12 with a grain of salt.

Finally, developer Shigeki Morimoto promises that ORAS will change the Gen VI battle environment. As cryptic as that sounds, it seems safe to assume Game Freak have changed something for the new games.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are coming to 3DS November 2014. We will make sure to keep you up to date on the latest for these games.
