Lead Designer For The Initiative Has Now Returned To Insomniac Games

February 23, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

Looks like Perfect Dark’s lead designer has gone back to his former studio.

For years The Initiative was shrouded by mystery. None of us knew what the studio was working on other than we had several highly talented people joining into the fold on whatever this secret project was. It’s been a few years in the works but Microsoft’s latest first-party studio that was built from the grounds up has since announced its debut title.

We know that The Initiative is working on a Perfect Dark video game reboot. It’s a franchise that’s been dormant since the last reboot attempt by Microsoft in 2010 for the Xbox 360. Now, this reboot is being developed for the latest generation of Xbox consoles, the Xbox Series X/S along with the PC platform. However, outside of the announcement trailer, we don’t know a whole lot about this upcoming project. It’s a game that we’re certainly hoping to see showcased soon, but while we wait for that next big trailer reveal or gameplay footage, we know that this studio has recently lost its lead designer for the project.

It was earlier this month that we got word of Drew Murray leaving The Initiative. It was due to his personal life at the moment which required his attention and as a result, the designer has stepped down from his position before Perfect Dark, the big debut title for The Initiative, was able to get put out into the marketplace. Now a few weeks have passed and we have discovered that Drew Murray is back in the video game industry.

It looks like Drew Murray is right back where he left off before joining in with The Initiative. Drew has announced on his Twitter account that he’s back working at Insomniac Games, the studio he’s been with for several years. His new title is Principal Designer although at the moment we only know of one video game being developed under the studio at the moment. Currently, Insomniac Games is developing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for the PlayStation 5, and that’s slated to hit the marketplace on June 11, 2021.
