We have new details on the Expedition DLC for Titanfall. In particular, we look at the making of Runoff, one of the game’s unique maps.
The idea of Runoff was a hard sell, but an interesting proposition for the game. It was going to be a small map, but one that still gave Titans the room they needed to get around. To pull this off, they developer several layers of pathways, across different elevations.
What scenario do you think would tie this up together? They set this map in an industrial area, where concrete canals carried water and trash. The premise allowed them to create choke points that even Pilots would not be able to circumvent.
In the very center of Runoff you can find three buildings. The central building has two large inlet tubes in the center, and the other two are connected to the billboards and sky-bridges. Below these buildings is the very artery that connects the whole map, in the form of a large trench. You can purposely drop into these trenches when you’re in a pinch, but watch out; you will have to travel the distance of the map to either end to get out.
Each gameplay mode uses the map’s unique features in different ways. For example, the trenches also have two flag bases in Conquer the Flag. You can use the trench path to get to the flags quickly. In Hardpoint, there is one point that requires a Titan to capture it, but the other two points will let you use the Titan to give you cover fire while you take them.
Runoff promises to be a fun map and a fine addition to Titanfall.
