Blizzard Releases The Lost Vikings, Rock N’ Roll Racing for Free

May 2, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Blizzard has released its classic games from the ’90s for free.

Did you know that Blizzard’s classic ‘90s games, The Lost Vikings, and Rock N' Roll Racing are now available to download for free on the battle.net? Well, it’s true. You can grab them right through your Account Management page on the service.

How do you download them?

Once you’re logged in, just head on over to the link on the sidebar that reads “Download Game Clients” and you should see something like the following image, which lists now lists The Lost Vikings, and Rock N' Roll Racing.

Why would you want to download them?

To take a look at Blizzard’s games when they were still known as Silicon and Synapse, and to check out their works before they became all big and popular with the release of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, which sadly enough isn’t yet available to download on the site.

What are the games about, exactly?

The Lost Vikings is a side-scrolling puzzle game in which you control three characters: Erik the Swift, Olaf the Stout, and Baelog the Fierce. Players of World of Warcraft may recognize the trio from the dungeons of Uldaman as quest NPCs. The vikings have been kidnapped by an alien named Tomator, who intends to exhibit them as a part of his intergalactic and time-traveling zoo. It’s a bit like that animated Superman episode. It’s up to the player to use the strengths of each of the vikings to rescue them from their predicament and escape the alien space ship.

As for Rock N’ Roll Racing, it’s a top-down battle racer not unlike Remedy’s Death Rally, which was no doubt inspired by the Blizzard title. You choose from one of six characters and race across a variety of tracks, all the while avoiding traps and hazards.
