Prodigy The Game Promises To Bring Tabletop Miniatures To The Next Level

May 2, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

This ain’t Skylanders, that’s for sure.

We would like to feature for you and interesting new Kickstarter, that is past is base goal and has time to spare, if you can catch up today. Introducing Prodigy The Game.

You can think of Prodigy as Skylanders for adults. There will be high quality NFC figurines, but instead of an open sandbox experience, you will use them in a turn based tactical RPG. Cards will also be an element, for a true board game experience. The only interface will be a bespoke physical board, and the game is set for Windows, but will be playable without using a mouse or keyboard.

The game is being developed on Unreal 4, and their original demo won the National Contest for Creation and Development of Innovative Technologies award last 2013.

So, the way this game is setup is you and an opponent have the boards, the cards, and some figurines. As you see the position of your figures in your board, you can see your opponents figurines through the PC monitor. You can freely move your character in your turn, and then finish that turn by placing an Arcana card on the board. The board, in turn, has a dynamic feedback lighting system. For example, it will show if your opponent is being attacked by highlighting it in red.

The game premise is high fantasy as its finest. Civilizations are destroying each other in Thasys, as their impending doom awaits. In this scenario, several factions vie for power to take control of their destiny.

The fantastic art and character designs are being made by Korean artists Keun Ju Kim, Sung Lae Kee, and Minseob Jung. They also have a special figurine making team headed by veteran Jean Bey. Music is headed by Nicolas Neidhart, and the actual devs, Hanakai, are based out of France, making this a truly international undertaking.

As of this writing, they have already raised $ 204,268, making it a resounding success. You can check out the pitch below and go to the Kickstarter page here.
