Turtle Rock Community Manager Fired Over Donald Sterling Comments

May 1, 2014 by Yesika Reyes

Josh Olin was terminated by 2K Games and Turtle Rock following his controversial tweets.

Turtle Rock Studios community manager Josh Olin was terminated from his position following some tweets he made about L.A Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

People who saw the tweet are up in arms especially when he called Sterling a "victim." For those not in the loop, the latter is under fire for making racist remarks and it somehow leaked to the press. The first tweet that sparked outrage can be seen below:

Afterwards, it seems that Turtle Rock Studios took notice since they posted some tweets of their own as a response to Olin's. It came to their attention since a lot of Twitter users responded negatively to what Olin had to say. It strongly suggests that they terminated Olin by using the word "former."

However, it doesn't end there. Olin defended himself in another series of tweets that he was not supporting nor defending Starling, but he was merely raising an issue about sensational media and supporting one's privacy.

He also sent out a response to several outlets who were trying to reach him:

Anyone who follows me knows my tweets were not in support of Sterling's actions. Rather, they were promoting three core tenets I believe in: 1) The harm sensational media presents to society. 2) The importance and sanctity of your privacy within your own home. And 3) The right to be whatever you want to be as an American, as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. That last point not to be confused with condoning Sterling's actions, which I don't.

"That said, it's disappointing to see that a select few in Turtle Rock and 2K Games management bought into this hysteria without even having a conversation with me – or even thoroughly reviewing the context of the tweets themselves. Ironically, it serves as a great example of why I hold tenet #1 above so close to heart. That said, everyone should totally still buy Evolve. The guys and gals making that game know their ***, and are making it good.

We will develop this story as we know more.
