Demon Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2 developer From Software is to be purchased by Kadokawa, the Japanese publisher of Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, and the recently released PlayStation Vita title Demon Gaze.
According to an announcement from the firm, Kadokawa will take a controlling interest totalling 80 per cent of From Software.
Demon Souls was published by Sony Computer Entertainment who still own the rights to that IP while Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 were independantly published by From Software in Japan and by Bandai Namco internationally.
Kadokawa has worked with publisher such as Warner Bros. for distribution outside Japan.
It's unclear at this stage what impact the buyout will have on the Dark Souls franchise or other From Software IPs such as Armored Core.
The deal is set to be finalised on May 21st and is worth 1.753 billion yen according to Gamebiz.
